“Spaetzle”

When it comes to regional foods that stick to your ribs, the Germans have it down. From sausages and sauerkraut to pretzels and strudel it’s all delicious! There’s one thing that gets left out, but if you ask a true dutchy, Spaetzle is a staple. These little dumpling are simple, delicious, and go with just about anything…

 

 

Ingredients:

4 Eggs

6 oz Milk

Dash Nutmeg

12 oz Flour

2 T Whole Grain Mustard

Salt and Pepper To Taste

 

Mix the ingredients together.

Get a large pot of boiling water going and place a colander or a perforated pan over it.

Pour your dough into the colander. Using a spatula or a bowl scraper, force the dough through the holes into the boiling water.

Allow to boil until they’ve all started to float. Strain and cool.

Take a pan and brown some butter. Add your little dumpling delights and toss to coat. Let them sit to develop a little color on one side, then toss again. A little crisp is a deliciously good thing…

Serve as a side, in a soup, or a big heaping bowl of them…it’s not bathing suit season yet…enjoy!

    I have made these in the past and they are very very good and go with anything. Only thing I used differently was some German stone ground dry mustard. The flavor is amazing. Oh by the way. I think you omitted the quantity of each ingredient in the recipe.

      Sorry Darrian! My wife gave birth to a bouncing baby boy yesterday and I Completely overlooked the measurements…of…the ingredients of course…the baby boy was 9lbs 13oz…
